My first experience with Golf was on my family's Packard Bell 386SX my parents bought back in 1991. The PC was a showroom floor model which came loaded with a little bit of demo software including the first Entertainment Pack. It took me awhile to understand how play Golf solitaire, especially that suit played no role. Once I figured out the rules, I didn't care much for the game because it ends very quickly, and the chance of winning, even when playing perfectly, is quite low. In January 2018 I did a grind session where I lost dozens of times before finally getting lucky enough to get a perfect game.

Best Version: Windows 3

— This section contains spoilers! —

Good

  • The game accurately enforces the basic rules of Golf solitaire.
  • I like the limited animation seen in some of the card backs.

Bad

  • Games are very short and an optimal strategy can be learned after only a few plays.
  • The game doesn't employ optional rules to make victory more likely, like being able to play queens or aces on kings.

Ugly

  • There is little in the way of media. There is no music, sound, and only extremely limited animation and the only customization available is in a couple rather ugly card designs.
