Video games in this category are based on existing brands that were licensed to be made into a video game, typically films, TV shows, comic books, and the like. Licensed games are usually made on a very tight schedule to coincide with the release of the product, resulting in a shoddy game which is rarely enjoyable. When I was a child, the allure of the tie-in to the brand often tricked me into buy terrible games, but now, after being burned by so many bad licensed games, I almost never buy or even bother trying to play them. However, occasionally a decent game is made for a license. Some companies even excelled at making licensed games, like Capcom.
