Acclaim Entertainment's logo.

Acclaim Entertainment was an American video game publisher founded in 1987 to capitalize on the growing market created by the Nintendo Entertainment System. They primarily published poorly-made licensed games made by shadow developers, but they did manage to get their hands on a couple decent games from time to time. In 1989, Acclaim bought a struggling LJN from MCA in order to publish twice as many games on the NES. They discontinued the brand in 1995 after Nintendo removed their 5-games-a-year limitation making the company redundant. Although they saw a large amount of success through the 1990s, a series of bad decisions and unethical business practices caused them to go bankrupt in 2004. The Acclaim brand survives, but the original company and its various subsidiaries do not.

Personal

Like many children, I was often tricked into buying or playing shoddy licensed games, and Acclaim was a strong purveyor of them. Because of this, I have little love for the company. Although, every now and then they found a decent game to publish.

Games

These are the games Acclaim Entertainment worked on that are important to me. For all games published by Acclaim Entertainment see the category.
