Appetite for Destruction
Appetite for Destruction is the debut studio album of Guns N' Roses released on 1987-07-21 and produced by Mike Clink. Although it did poorly in sales initially, the band's initial tour and radio airplay caused it to be extremely successful and it still holds the record as the best-selling debut album. The album's music is a mix of hard rock, heavy metal, and glam metal and theme of the songs include drug use, sex, love, and various forms of excess.
Personal
My older brother and sister got a hold of this album in the late 1980s and played it frequently, though my mother didn't approve of the lyrics, so they sometimes had to listen to it only when she wasn't around. I also heard some of the songs on the radio. I was a bit too young to really care about music at the time, but most of the songs stuck in my mind so that, when I was older and more interested in music, the songs quickly came back to me. Now that I'm much older, I find the lyrics to be a bit juvenile, but I still like the music the the heavy rock helped shape my tastes through my late teens and early 20s.

The album was originally released with artwork by Robert Williams, but, since sales were hurt by many retailers refusing to display the album, it was reissued with art by Billy White Jr., originally designed as a tattoo. Axl described the tattoo and White drew it. A refined version with the title in banners was made for the CD release. Originally, Axl wanted the cover to be a photograph of the Challenger space shuttle exploding, but the publisher refused.
