World Heroes 2 is a fighting video game developed and published by ADK for the Arcade on 1993-04-26 and subsequently ported to a few other platforms. The game is still largely based on Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, but the new fighter designs are more unique. It is the second game in the World Heroes series, the sequel to World Heroes, and was followed up by World Heroes JET.

Like in the first game, the player takes on the role of a historic fighter who travels through time to defeat other prominent fighters to determine who is the best fighter in history. This game adds several new fighters like a viking, a pirate with a pet vulture, 16-year-old judo expert, and, naturally, a football player. In addition to the shape-changing boss from the first game, a new more powerful boss has been added, this time with an actual move set.

Personal

Own?No.
Won?Yes. SNES - USA - Difficulty: 4 - Hanzo and Fuuma.
Finished2024-09-07 - SNES - USA.

After beating World Heroes with two different fighters, I was curious to see if the second game was equally as doable. I started the game with its default level 4 difficulty and played as Hanzo and did almost nothing by throw my opponents over and over again until I won. Then, just to prove it wasn't a fluke, I did it again with Fuuma.

— This section contains spoilers! —

Good

  • The graphics are well-drawn.
  • The new characters, while still not all that interesting, add a lot more options to the game.
  • The existing characters were all given additional special moves.
  • The death match game with hazardous arenas adds some interesting play style, and this game added more variety to it.
  • There are several added options like handicapping superior players in Vs. Mode, a seesaw life gauge, and hidden life gauges.
  • Blocked projectiles are reflected back at the thrower. This is an interesting mechanic which adds a much-needed disadvantage to the otherwise unbalanced attack.

Bad

  • I didn't find any of the background music to be enjoyable.
  • On the SNES port, at difficulty level 4, you can just throw your opponent over and over again to achieve victory.
  • The SNES port removes the bonus game.
  • As with the first game, the overt similarities to Street Fighter II just make you compare it to that game and find it comes up short. Although this one is quite a bit better and more unique than the first, Capcom had released Street Fighter II: Turbo - Hyper Fighting in the interim which was far more interesting.

Ugly

  • Just like with other fighting games of the time, it allows its AI to use hold style special moves without a delay creating cheating AI.
  • Though she's only 16-years-old, Ryoko is still drawn with bouncing breasts to ogle.
