Word game
A word game is a game, puzzle, or toy based on words. These games are typically based on the spelling or definition of words, and often played solo, though most can be made into a competitive form.
Personal
When I was young child, my mother loved to relax while playing crossword puzzles. However, being so young, I couldn't enjoy them, and resented the fact that they prevented her from being able to play with me. However, as I got better at reading, I started liking word searches and jumbles. In elementary school, I always raced to be the first in my class to complete them. Before I went into junior high, my mom would sometimes take me to breakfast when I had the day off from school, and she would buy a newspaper. I would read the comics, and she would do the crossword. I was just old enough to help with some of the clues, and she would save the easier ones for me. As my language skills improved, and I began to read more through my teens, I started to become decent at word puzzles. I'm still not great at word games because I don't practice them very often, but I now enjoy most solo word games.
