The Minister's Black Veil is a short story written by Nathaniel Hawthorne and published in 1836. The story is about a minister who one day starts wearing a black veil over his face, hiding it from all the townsfolk. People are disturbed by it, but the minister refuses to explain why he's wearing it, and never takes it off, even among his closest loved ones. Even though the minister is the same old man inside, people start rumors, friends never visit, and the minister becomes a fright of the town.

Review

I get it, everyone else is the freak for treating the minister so unkindly over something as simple as a little black veil. But this moral is pretty tired, and, never revealing the purpose of the veil, is kind of a middle-finger to the reader.
