Although I don't like the change in musical style that occurred with the band when they released ''Something to Die For'', I absolutely adore this song from the album. This is far and away my favorite song off the album, in my top 3 of the band's music, and one of my favorite songs of all time. The sound and theme of this song makes it a much better fit for their previous album, ''[[Crossing the Rubicon]]''. Although the song's theme is quite simple, it's highly relatable to any couple. The instrumental at the beginning of the song is very enjoyable, I also like the first lyric, "We gotta save ourselves if we wanna save the world," which is good advice, as is, "Don't give in to your hate when you know you can change." My favorite lyric comes from the chorus, "We gotta slow down baby, 'cuz we're still young, but we are getting older. Our hearts are still warm, but they are getting colder." Throughout the entire song Maja Ivarsson's vocals are fantastic and the break with the bridge switching into the crescendo of the final chorus is amazingly powerful.

The Best of Me is a new wave song by The Sounds first released on 2011-03-29 as track 9 on the album Something to Die For. The music was composed by Felix Rodriguez and Jesper Anderberg and they lyrics were written by Rodriguez, Anderberg, and Fredrik Blond. On the album recording, Maja Ivarsson sings vocals, Johan Bengtsson plays bass, Fredrik Blond plays drums, Felix Rodriguez and Jesper Anderberg play electric guitar, and Jesper Anderberg plays keyboards. In the song, the singer makes a plea to their lover to hold fast to them through all the complications life is throwing at them and to trust each other in order to make it through the most difficult times as they grow together.

The change in musical style for Something to Die For left me cold on the bulk of the album. I can't appreciate most of the songs, including all four singles, but I absolutely adore this track. This is far and away my favorite song from the album, in my top 3 of the band's music, and one of my favorite songs of all time. The sound and theme of this song makes it such a better fit for their previous album, Crossing the Rubicon, that I wonder if it's a leftover. The song's theme is quite simple, but that makes it highly relatable to any couple.

Lyrics

Oh my love, we gotta save ourselves,
If we wanna save the world.
Don't give in to your hate,
When you know you can change,
It's hitting home when it feels so strange.
I wanna say those words,
But it's not that easy,
I smile, but it doesn't make things right.
And it's hard when it's hurting all the time,
But I can leave this thing behind.

You gotta trust me and hold on.
We gotta slow down baby,
'Cuz we're still young,
But we are getting older.
Our hearts are still warm,
But they are getting colder.
And this life is getting the best of me,
And I'm down on my knees, oh please.
Baby hold on.

Keep your head up high.
Reach for me I can pretend when it's a lie.
Talk to me when you're low.
Confide in me, I promise I won't tell a soul.
And we can turn this corner, no it's not that easy,
But were fools not to give it a try.

But baby, hold on.

When I see the stars above me,
Shining their light down on my face,
I feel you.
Now I know what I'm missing.

Hold on, we gotta slow down baby,
'Cuz we're still young,
But we are getting older.
Our hearts are still warm,
But they are getting colder.
And this life is getting the best of me,
And gets me down on my knees.
Hey! Please!
Baby hold on.
