Super Dangerous Dungeons is a platformer video game developed and published by Adventure Islands as an iOS and browser game on 2015-11-19, and then ported to a few other platforms. The game is a remake of Dangerous Dungeons, but with enough changes to the graphics, music, and map layouts to warrant the "Super" prefix. It is the fourth game in the Dangerous Dungeons series and was developed using the Stencyl engine.

In the game, you play as a treasure hunter looking for valuable artifacts in an ancient dungeon. You must jump over obstacles and hazards to safely reach them.

Personal

Own?Yes. On Steam.
Won?Yes. Main story and two bonus dungeons.

I liked and beat the Windows port of Tiny Dangerous Dungeons, so, when I saw the familiar character on Steam, I put it on my wish list. After it went on sale, I bought it and tried it out. I was expecting another Metroidvania, and was a little disappointed that it was just a platformer, but the game proved fun enough, so I kept at it and beat the main story and the two bonus dungeons. I haven't tried to beat any of the dungeons in time trial mode or in limited deaths mode (although I did get the grass dungeon with 3 or fewer deaths).

Good

  • The game has pretty good pixel art. I like the design of the player's character especially.
  • There is decent music as well.
  • The control of the character feels pretty good. The jumping isn't too floaty, you can easily control your height and distance, and it makes use of jump buffering.
  • Having unlimited lives and a checkpoint after every level is nice.
  • The game offers several additional challenges to add more content. There are four extra hard hidden levels, two bonus dungeons, an unlockable time trial mode, and special achievements for finishing the dungeons with three or fewer deaths.

Bad

  • Using pixel art, but allowing the player to move in increments that didn't match the size of the pixels created some odd-looking effects, like the player character sometimes hovering a single pixel over moving platforms instead of touching them.
  • Drowning in water that is more shallow than the your character is tall looks silly. Had they used acid instead, it would have fixed this.
  • The game was a little on the dull side. Other than the four hidden levels, it was nothing more than a long series of jumping puzzles.

Ugly

  • Nothing.
