I saw this game listed in the top 10 list of free games on the Steam 250 web site. The "Short Adventure" subtitle played a part in why I chose to play it, as it was late in the evening when I found it. I really enjoyed the game and played it a second time through the next day.

Good

  • The art is really good. The artists did a wonderful job of mixing traditional pixel art with modern lighting effects and physics models. The animation of Sheepy and Patches are fantastic with lots of cute and creepy frames. The game has a lot of nice visual ambience.
  • The music is well-composed and serves as a wonderful backdrop to the game. It's very mood inducing. Great sound effects too.
  • The final boss battle is an epic showdown which requires both thinking and reflexes, a combination I really enjoy.
  • I like the literal warning sign when you reach a point of no return.
  • The dynamic music on the long trail was a good idea.
  • I enjoyed the game enough that, after I finished the game, I donated some money to the developers.

Bad

  • I ran into a couple bugs as I kept failing to escape up out of the deep pit. Patches respawned at one point, then the camera got stuck zoomed in on the singularity. Also, in the final scene, only the analog directional works, which is a bit odd if you used the D-pad the whole game.
  • It takes quite a bit of practice to learn the fly / run / double jump combination effectively, and I initially became frustrated with some of the jumps. It wasn't until my second play-through that I had become good enough so that I wasn't too annoyed.
  • Having achievements for getting caught by a trap and failing to win a boss battle didn't make much sense to me.
  • The hidden records are a nice trinket to find, but they don't really fit with the game's story line. Why vinyl records? As far as I can tell, you never listen to them.

Ugly

  • Nothing.
