Robert Anson Heinlein (1907-07-07 - 1988-05-08) was an American science fiction author known for writing about rather controversial topics, yet becoming popular enough to be published in mainstream magazines.
The first book I read of his was Stranger In a Strange Land because it was ranked so high on many top sci-fi lists. I really enjoyed the book, however, when I began reading his other work, I found that Stranger was not written in his normal style. Heinlein heroes are often callous and selfish, and, like many authors from his era, his stories are filled with a lot of sexism and bigotry that I find unpalatable.
