Puzzle is a video game adaption of a sliding puzzle developed and published by Apple for the Macintosh Classic and released on 1984-01-24 as an included program with the very first MacOS. It was replaced in a later version of the MacOS with a similar puzzle with the Apple logo. It was included with each Mac from the very first release until it was replaced by Jigsaw Puzzle with System 7.5. The game is a simple 4x4 slideing puzzle labeled with the numbers 1-15.

I initially didn't want to bother creating a page for this game, as it is nothing more than a simple sliding puzzle game, but, I figured, it's important enough to classic Mac users, so I found online emulators and beat both versions.

Best Version: Macintosh Classic

— This section contains spoilers! —

Good

  • The game's programmer was able to squeeze the game into a mere 600 bytes.

Bad

Ugly

  • Like most simple sliding puzzles, the game is fun until you figure out how to solve it. Then it becomes boring. It doesn't have any options for different sizes, alternate graphics, or anything else.
  • The game is severely lacking in media. It has no music, sound effects, and only the most primitive black and white graphics.
