Remastered album cover.

News of the World is the sixth studio album by Queen released on 1977-10-28 and produced by Queen and Mike Stone. The album is quite a change from the band's earlier progressive rock albums, and is most popular for its hard rock songs We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions, but it also features ballads, soft rock, blues, and psychedelic rock.

Personal

I remember being a little disappointed when I bought this album. I was already well familiar with We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions, so I skipped to Sheer Heart Attack, which I didn't like, and, from the title, I presumed that All Dead, All Dead was going to be hard rock, but it's a soft ballad. I eventually grew to love All Dead, All Dead and the album as a whole, but it took time before my failed expectations were replaced.

I own this album on vinyl and CD.

Media

The cover art is from a painting by Frank Kelly Freas which was altered by the artist to include the band members. The idea is that the giant robot has accidentally killed people because it thought they were toys and played too rough with them. The look on its face is imploring its maker to please fix the "toys" for it. Some retailers sold the album with the art from the gatefold on the exterior, probably to censor the blood.
