An anthology including this book was gifted to my daughters at their baby shower. I first read it to them in the middle of the night across a few days while I was feeding and changing them.

Good
- The story certainly has a lot of adventure and excitement.
- I like that Elmer relies on his brains to outsmart his foes rather than violence.
- The illustrations are quite good.
Bad
- I got bored because it keeps repeating the same theme of outsmarting a dangerous foe.
- The items Elmer takes with him to the island and how they're implemented are quite contrived.
- In the end, all of the island's animals will be killed by crocodiles!
Ugly
- Nothing.
Covers
The original cover is well painted, makes good use of color, has an enjoyable typeface, and nicely depicts a scene from the book.
