Primary cast of Monty Python.

Monty Python is a six-member British comedy troupe employing satire, surreal humor, black comedy, and blue comedy. Their first project was Monty Python's Flying Circus, a television show which ran for four seasons from 1969-1973. They have since created several films, audio recordings, books, video games, and many other forms of media. Each of the original six members went on to do all sorts of other projects. Although Graham Chapman died in 1989, all the remaining other members are alive and have made huge names for themselves.

I first learned about Monty Python in middle school when my friends were talking about Monty Python and the Holy Grail. They were describing some of the sketches which I didn't understand, and mentioning that it frequently played on Comedy Central. Since my parents wouldn't buy cable, I never saw it. One summer, while visiting my grand parents who did have cable, I saw that it was showing later in the evening. We came back from an outing after it had already started, but I caught most of it and found it to be hilarious. I later saw it couple more times with my friends in high school and, around 18, bought the film. My high school girlfriend and I got on a kick where we started renting all the Monty Python videos from Family Video including Monty Python's Life of Brian, Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, and the first season of Monty Python's Flying Circus, all of which we loved. I later got a hold of several Monty Python soundtracks, and have grown to love the comedy troupe over the years.
