Lost in Love is a new wave song by The Sounds. It was recorded in early 2009 and released as track 9 on the album Crossing the Rubicon on 2009-06-02. The song was written and composed by Jesper Anderberg, Félix Rodríguez, Adam Schlesinger, and James Iha and sung by Maja Ivarsson.

Personal

To me, the song is about someone who has grown sick and tired of breakups and trying to find a lover, so they have decided to stop searching altogether, not necessarily because they've given up on idea of love, but they've grown out of the childish belief of the "perfect" love.

I really like the lyrics in the chorus including, "you're never alone, but you're always on your own," indicating that the person is always dating someone, but they still feel alone when they do. Also, "never again, I promised myself, I'd be searching for someone new," shows that they're taking a stand to stop looking for someone to fill a void. Throughout the entire song, there are really nice synth and traditional instrumental breaks and Maja's overlaid vocals are amazing in this song.

I first heard this song around 2010. After hearing and enjoying 4 Songs & a Fight on Blalock's Indie/Rock Playlist, I searched for more music by The Sounds and found their latest album at the time, Crossing the Rubicon. From there I listened to the various songs and loved most of them, this song included.

Lyrics

Everybody gets a little lost, sometimes
When you feel your time is running out.
You know your love has stalled
When you feel alone and dreams from younger years
Are telling you what's gone.
Then ask yourself why people fall apart
'Cause they don't realize that something just ain't right.
When you lay down on your pillow at home tonight
You got to realize your holding on to something that ain't right.

I believe in this fire burning inside of me.
You're never alone, but you're always on your own.
Lost in love and desire, never again,
I promised myself, I'd be searching for someone new.

Smothered by his words
He's selling freedom that you can afford
To everyone but yourself.
You're down on luck tonight
You're down, down, down there's nowhere left
To turn cause now you're all alone.
Standing on the outside looking in
That is when I realize, his love don't mean a thing.

I believe in this fire burning inside of me.
You're never alone, but you're always on your own.
Lost in love and desire, never again,
I promised myself, I'd be searching for someone new.

When you feel your troubles closing in
You got to realize you're holding on to something that ain't right.
Oh, oh, oh.

I believe in this fire burning inside of me.
You're never alone, but you're always on your own.
Lost in love and desire, never again,
I promised myself, I'd be searching for someone new.

I believe in this fire burning inside of me.
Lost in love and desire, fire, I'm burning.
