This is a list of popular video games I don't like. Games in this list have seen a lot of sales and generally get favorable reviews from players, but not from me. I don't hate any of them, and I can usually say several nice things about the games, but, ultimately, I find them to be inferior games.

| Diablo III || I started playing this not too long after it came out (but after some of the more egregious problems were fixed), but I didn't find it all that interesting. It seemed to be a more flashy version of the original, but with a lot more to min and max, something that I no longer have the patience to learn.

| Crash Banidcoot || PlayStation || I remember seeing someone play this game and thinking, "is this it? you just run down a hallway and avoid hazards?" The low poly count is terrible, the sound effects are obnoxious, and, for a large part of the game, yeah, you just run down a hallway.

| Minecraft || I've played my fair share of the game during the alpha stage, but, with sparse updates, terrible combat mechanics, and no story or goal to speak of, I got bored fairly quickly. I may try it again now that it has been updated more, but I doubt I'll find it that much more interesting.

| Donkey Kong Country || SNES || I hate low-resolution pre-rendered graphics, and that's all this game is. I'm also not much of a fan of the game's level design. Great music though.

|-
| Nights Into Dreams || Although the game's plot is good, and the music is enjoyable, it's still a racing game which requires you to do the same thing over and over again until you've memorized the track so much it becomes second nature. I don't find that very fun, and I think the characters and enemies look stupid.

| F-Zero || SNES || I've always seen this as just a boring old racing game. You drive around, over and over again, until you memorize the track, but, no matter how good you get, the cheating AI will always be on your tail. And, since there is no 2-player mode, you're always stuck racing against the AI.

|-
| Sonic the Hedgehog || The game has a lot of really good platforming action, but, by locking the camera on the center of the screen, the player never sees enough of the stage to react to hazards, so the game's gimmick of running super fast through the stage is negated.

| Final Fantasy VII || PlayStation || Although I loved most of the Final Fantasy games before it, the low poly count graphics, ridiculous merger of fantasy and sci-fi, and unimpressive music left me flat.

|-
| Super Mario 64 || This game is certainly very creative and has a lot of fun moments, but the controls and camera totally ruin it for me. Even something as simple as walking in a straight line becomes an absolute shore as the camera pans around you, forcing you to adjust your direction, not to the environment, but to your view of the environment. You can nudge the camera, but only for a short while, and only when there isn't a wall to block it.

| Golden Sun || Game Boy Advance || The combat mechanics are too basic, the pre-rendered graphics look terrible, and the story is lame.

| Super Smash Bros. || The older I get, the less I care about fighting games. While I love the idea of cross-over games, this one does nothing for me. It has an extremely low poly count, I found the controls overly complex, and, unless you play with someone perfectly matched to your skill level, quite aggravating.

| 007 || Nintendo 64 || As a PC gamer who grew up with Wolfenstein 3-D and Doom and also played a little of Duke Nukem 3D and Quake, this game always looked so inferior to me. The only people who seemed to be impressed by it were people who never played PC games and saw goo 3D engines. I've only played death match, so, maybe the story mode is good?

This is a list of popular video games I don't like. Games in this list have seen a lot of sales and generally get favorable reviews from players, but not from me. I don't hate any of them, and I can usually say several nice things about the games, but, ultimately, I find them to be inferior games.

Title Platform Notes
Crash Banidcoot PlayStation I remember seeing someone play this game and thinking, "is this it? you just run down a hallway and avoid hazards?" The low poly count is terrible, the sound effects are obnoxious, and, for a large part of the game, yeah, you just run down a hallway.
Donkey Kong Country SNES I hate low-resolution pre-rendered graphics, and that's all this game is. I'm also not much of a fan of the game's level design. Great music though.
F-Zero SNES I've always seen this as just a boring old racing game. You drive around, over and over again, until you memorize the track, but, no matter how good you get, the cheating AI will always be on your tail. And, since there is no 2-player mode, you're always stuck racing against the AI.
Final Fantasy VII PlayStation Although I loved most of the Final Fantasy games before it, the low poly count graphics, ridiculous merger of fantasy and sci-fi, and unimpressive music left me flat.
Golden Sun Game Boy Advance The combat mechanics are too basic, the pre-rendered graphics look terrible, and the story is lame.
GoldenEye 007 Nintendo 64 As a PC gamer who grew up with Wolfenstein 3-D and Doom and also played a little of Duke Nukem 3D and Quake, this game always looked so inferior to me. The only people who seemed to be impressed by it were people who never played PC games and saw goo 3D engines. I've only played death match, so, maybe the story mode is good?
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Nintendo 64 I adore the 2D Zelda games, but haven't liked any of the 3D titles. This game has terrible controls, ugly graphics, and weak music. I don't know why people like it.
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass Nintendo DS Controlling the player with the stylus completely ruins the game. I wrested with the controls for about a quarter of the way through the game before finding nothing redeeming and giving up.
Minecraft Windows I sunk about 100 hours into it during the alpha stage, but, with sparse updates over the years, terrible combat mechanics, and no story or goal to speak of, I got bored fairly quickly. I may try it again now that it has been updated more, but I doubt I'll find it that much more interesting.
Mortal Kombat SNES I hate fighting games with cheating AI, and Mortal Kombat suffers from this greatly. Also, even if you ignore Sub Zero and Scorpion being identical (and the dozens more based on them in later games), the other characters are all too similar. Excluding special moves, each character has a nearly identical move set, which I find boring.
Nights Into Dreams Saturn The game's plot is fun and the music is enjoyable, but it still has the same problem common to most racing games, you have to do the same thing over and over again until you've memorized the track. I don't find that very fun, and I think the art style of the characters and enemies look stupid.
Pokémon Game Boy The vast majority of the game is combat grinding. I probably would have liked it when I was a kid with tons of free time, but now I find grinding pretty insufferable.
Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis Great music and graphics, but, by locking the camera to the center of the screen, the player never sees enough of the stage to react to hazards in time, so the game's gimmick of running through the stage super fast is entirely negated. Play Freedom Planet instead.
Star Fox SNES I grew up with dog-fighter games that give you total control over your range of motion, so this rail shooter makes me feel like I'm chained to the ground. Perhaps if I spent more time getting used to the controls, I would appreciate the game more, but the extremely low poly count is so ugly it hurts to look at it.
Super Mario 64 Nintendo 64 This game is certainly very creative, it has a lot of fun moments, and the music is wonderful. I've played it quite a bit, but I just can't get over how bad the controls and camera are. Even something as simple as walking in a straight line becomes a chore as the camera pans around you, forcing you to adjust your direction to the whims of the camera.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island SNES I just can't seem to get into this game. The annoying crying Mario, the floaty jumps, having to stop and aim your egg throws, all these gimmicks just slow down the game play. The music is pretty good, and pixel art is great, but the painted backgrounds, despite looking pretty, are very distracting.
Super Smash Bros. Nintendo 64 The older I get, the less I care about fighting games. I love the idea of cross-overs in video games, but this one does nothing for me. It has an extremely low poly count, I find the controls to be overly complex, and, unless you play with someone evenly matched to your skill level, it's quite aggravating.
Tomb Raider PlayStation After spending only a little time fighting the poor controls and bad camera, I gave up. Even Lara Croft's sharp triangular boobs couldn't entice me to keep playing.
