This is a list of all the hardware I've purchased and my success (or lack thereof) with it. Note that all hardware eventually fails, so the products here aren't necessarily bad.
Company | Item | Part Number | Purchase Date | Fail Date | Longevity | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Cowon | iAudio 20 GB | M5-20SL | 2006-01 | 2012-12 | 6 years, 11 months | Had to RMA this after a couple months when the D-pad failed. USB port finally started separating from board. Got a lot of use out of this device. Deceptively labeled "color sound" on a black and white display. |
Hitachi | 1TB Hard Drive | 9F13180 | 2012-11 | 2013-06 | 7 months | SATA 15-pin connector partially broke off. OEMed to Hitachi. |
Maxtor | 200GB Hard Drive | 6L200P0 | 2006-07 | 2014-08 | 8 years, 1 month | By the time the drive failed, it was so out-dated I didn't have anything important on it. |
Razer | DeathAdder Chroma | PM1501121724372 | 2016-?? | 2016-08 | Less than a year. | The tracking and buttons still work fine, but after a few months, the scroll wheel became faulty. Scrolling down very often jumps back up, and scrolling up sometimes jumps down. Very frustrating flaw. I've also noticed that the laser often fails to track on surfaces that go from light to dark colors, even on mouse pads. |
Samsung | Spinpoint 1TB Hard Drive | HD103UJ | 2008-10 | 2012-12 | 2 years, 2 months | Drive started clicking, stopped responding. Read head failure. Lost a couple years of work with this one. |
SanDisk | Sansa Clip+ 8GB | SDMX18R-008GK-A57 | 2011-03 | 2012-02 | 11 months | Headphone jack separated from board. Flash drive still works. Wonderful workout DAP. |
SanDisk | Sansa Clip Zip 4GB | SDMX22-004G-A57O | 2012-02 | 2013-05, 2017-09-20 | 1 year, 3 months | D-pad started to fail on the down arrow. Usable, but you have to press hard. Flash drive still works. Switched back after my other Clip Zip backlight failed, and used it for a couple more years before the headphone jack separated from the board. Wonderful workout DAP. |
SanDisk | Sansa Clip Zip 4GB | SDMX22-004G-A57P | 2013-05 | 2015-12 | 1 year, 7 months | D-pad started to fail on the down arrow. Backlight began to fail. Flash drive still works. |
Toshiba | Gigabeat 40 GB | MEG-F40S | 2007-07 | 2012-08 | 5 years, 1 month | Battery died and can't boot from USB power. Casing broke early on. Battery bloated and messed up D-pad, had to bend the casing to fix it. Poor design. |
Xtreme Gear | 700W ATX Power Supply | XG-P700 | 2012-05 | 2013-05 | 1 year | Good amount of cable hook-ups, but blew a capacitor. No storms at the time. |
