Kyatto Ninden Teyandee is a platformer video game developed and published by Tecmo for the Famicom on 1991-07-19. The game is based on the anime of the same name (which was later reworked in the USA as Samurai Pizza Cats). You control the Secret Ninja Team Nyankii, a trio of Animaloids (android animals) who are trying to protect the land of Edoropolis from Prime Minister Kitsunezuka Ko'on no Kami who is trying to usurp the current Shogun. The game is broken up into several stages and you must choose one of the three primary Nyankiis to use, each with their own slightly different attack set, and make you way to the boss.

I found this game while searching for the best Famicom-only releases. I tried it out and enjoyed it right away, so I played a fan-made English translation and beat it on 2019-12-01.

Good

  • The game is a lot of fun; it feels like you're taking an interactive part in an anime. It's clear the game was made for children, but the cut scenes are still enjoyable and funny. It's rare to see a good licensed game, and this is fun even if you're unfamiliar with the source material.
