Revision as of 11:34, 20 February 2020
Jazz is the seventh studio album by Queen released on 1978-11-10 and produced by Queen and Roy Thomas Baker. The album contains songs from several genres including rock, heavy metal, funk, and softer ballads. Some romantic rock songs carrying on the tradition from the Opera/Races albums, but also really explodes with arena rock songs like Don't Stop Me No, Fat Bottomed Girls, and Let Me Entertain You. For some reason, the album begins with Freddie's rather odd Mustapha song which doesn't fit the rest of the album.
Personal
This was one of the last of the studio albums I bought of Queen's. I was hesitant to buy it because I already knew several songs on it from compilations, and I didn't much care for the cover art. I first heard the non-single songs from the Crown Jewels boxed set my high school girlfriend bought for me, and warmed up to them very quickly. As usual, Brian's non-single songs are deep and introspective, while Roger and John's songs are nice, but mostly forgettable. I was surprised to see a small version of the the nude bicycle race poster with the box set. Later, I bought a Hollywood records CD to get the additional tracks.
Status
I own this album on vinyl and CD.
Track Listing
Media
Although I think the cover is a bit bland, I do like the Moiré effect it causes.
