Freeware
Freeware is a software distribution model where the developer allows their software to be used completely free, while continuing to hold the copyright. Sometimes freeware is even open source, but not always. Although "freeware" was initially a trademarked term, it is no longer a legal term or distribution license, and therefore has no agreed upon definition, but, for the purposes of this site, "freeware" is software that has all its features intact, never asks for money, and doesn't include any advertisements. There are many distribution licenses which can be described as freeware like the Creative Commons License and the Gnu Public License.
Personal
Although I love free software, I recognize that, because the developer isn't receiving any money for the program, it's usually inferior compared to commercial software. Freeware is also often in a state of disrepair with half-finished features and unfixed bugs. However, there are a lot of mature freeware programs available for a great deal of the tasks average users use on a computer.
