Crazy Nick's Software Picks: Roger Wilco's Spaced Out Game Pack is an action video game developed and published by Sierra On-Line in 1992 for MS-DOS. It was part of the Crazy Nick's Software Picks series of budget computer games, as well as the Space Quest series. The game is composed of three mini games: Ms. Astro Chicken, Monolith Burger, and Sand Skimmer. It was created using the Sierra Creative Interpreter engine.

Personal

I didn't play this game when it came out, but, decades later, after beating some of the other games from the Crazy Nick's Software Picks series, I tried it out. I very quickly discovered the games are very poorly made, and I assumed they were endless except for the Sand Skimmer game which I beat on easy difficulty. After finding out online that Ms. Astro Chicken could also be beaten, I retried the game, and, after several attempts, beat it. I then played Sand Skimmer on expert several times and eventually beat it. I got a score of $38.00 in Monolith Burger, but, as far as I can tell, it's an endless game. Until someone proves otherwise, I will assume I finished the game on 2020-05-30.

Status

I don't own this game, but I have beaten it.

Best Version: DOS

— This section contains spoilers! —

Good

  • The title music is pretty good, and the Sand Skimmer music isn't horrible.

Bad

  • The graphics are not very good, especially for a Sierra title. Roger Wilco looks terrible at the title screen, the Ms. Astro Chicken graphics are amateur, and the Sand Skimmer sprites are ugly.

Ugly

  • For each of the games, the game play is extremely monotonous.
  • The controls for all three games are bad. They're not broken, just highly unresponsive.
  • The music during the games is very annoying.
  • This is just a very unexciting and un-enjoyable game. I wouldn't pay a cent for this game, let along the MSRP of $9.95!

Box Art

The box art is about what you would expect from a budget release: garish. It has ugly clip art with a screenshot and some bright eye-catching text.
