The Book of Obadiah, often called simply, Obadiah, is a Jewish prophecy canonized into the Minor Prophets section of the Nevi'im. Christians place it in their Old Testament.

In the prophecy, Obadiah describes how Yahweh has told him to gather the nations of Israel to go to war against the land of Edom, which was founded by Esau (of Jacob and Esau fame). In the prophecy, Yahweh details his orders to the Israelites to kill everyone that lives there because they didn't try to stop those invading Israel.

Obadiah is generally dated to 607-586 BCE. The author identifies himself as "עבדיה [`Obadyah] Obadiah," which is traditionally identified as the author's name since it is used elsewhere in the Tanakh as a name. However, the translation of this word is "slave of God," which could also be a title.

Status

I have several translations of this book from various bibles, and have read the KJV and NIV translations.
