My mother had a cassette of this album in the late 1980s and I remember her listening to it in the car. I didn't understand most of the lyrics at the time, so I mostly appreciated it based on its sound alone which always gave me a melancholy forlorn far away feeling. In my 30s, I remember seeing the song At Seventeen from a 30 Rock episode and thought I should add the song to my collection. I downloaded the album, but didn't bother listening to it then.
When I was 43, my mother reminded me of the song, and, this time, I listened to the entire album. At first, I noticed the songs sounded vaguely familiar, and, when I got to In the Winter, I finally recognized the album as the one my mother had, and the subsequent songs confirmed it. Hearing the songs for the first time in over 30 years was pretty surreal. Now that I'm old enough to understand the lyrics, I find the album to be even more emotional.
