Battleship is a board game video game adaption of Battlehips developed and published by an unknown person for the Commodore PET, probably some time in the late 1900s. The game is programmed in Commodore BASIC. Because the game lacks identification, it was probably released as freeware.

There are several variations of Battleship programmed for the PET. This one has the basic rules of Battleship and a competent AI.

I was looking for more Commodore PET games to play when I found this. I tried it out and just barely won on my first try.

Best Version: Commodore PET

Good

• The game effectively enforces the rules of Battleship.
• The AI follows an effective search algorithm, which is nice to learn from, and lets you play when you don't have a partner.

Bad

• The game is just Battleship without any variations. It could be played on paper and a pencil.
• The game doesn't support two-player mode.
• Having to set up your ships using start and end coordinates is quite clunky.
• The AI doesn't have any difficulty settings.

Ugly

• The game is media challenged. It uses only monochrome text and there is no music.
