Azure Ray is an American indie band which plays music described as dream pop. The group consists of Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink and formed in Athens, Georgia in 2001. The duo frequently go on hiatus to pursue individual careers, only to regroup and put out new albums every couple years. The songs created by the two women have a lovely dreamy sound, and mostly deal with topics of relationships and depression.
I was made aware of Azure Ray by my friend Kimberly in the early 2000s. She was a fellow Rilo Kiley fan, and knew of Azure Ray for their work with shared publisher, Saddle Creek. I have been a fan of the band ever since and greatly enjoy their albums. I listen to them when I'm feeling nostalgic, lonely, or just want to wallow in sadness.
