Apostasy

Apostasy, which comes from the Greek: ἀποστασία [apostasía], meaning "a defection or revolt," is a term used to describe disaffiliating from a religion, especially when an individual purposely chooses to leave the religion in which they were inculcated, essentially a more official form of heresy. The process of apostasy is called apostatizing, and a person who has undergone apostasy is called an apostate. Traditionally, Christians, Jews, and Muslims would murder apostates, though, today they prefer excommunication, abuse, and shunning. The only nations which still support murdering apostates are Muslim theocracies.

Personal

I am a Christian apostate and I openly renounce and repudiate the religion. I also have an article on questions about apostasy.
