A Boy and His Blob (universe)
A Boy and His Blob is a series of puzzle-platformer video games created by David Crane in 1990. In the games, you control a little boy who befriends an alien blob by feeding him jellybeans, and the blob will morph into different shapes depending on flavor of the jellybean.
The first game in the series was released on the NES in January 1990 and a sequel was rushed out for the Game Boy later that same year. The franchise remained stagnant until 2009 when it was rebooted, however, the reboot didn't do so well, and nothing else has been seen from the series since, aside from a virtual release of the original two titles.
Personal
I first saw A Boy and His Blob: Trouble in Blobolonia in a video game review book which caused me to rent the game. I almost beat it over the weekend, but got stuck late in the game. In the early 2000s, I bought a used copy and finally beat the game. I bought the reboot after it dropped in price, but found all the new staged-based approach with lots of hand-holding made it rather dull and gave up after an hour or so. Curious to try the only other game in the series, I played the Game Boy release and found it very similar to the original, so I played it to the end.
