A Boy Named Goo is the fifth studio album by the Goo Goo Dolls. It was published on CD on 1995-03-14 and and produced by Lou Giordano, Rob Cavallo, and the Goo Goo Dolls. The songs are mostly a mix of alternative rock and post-grunge.
Shortly after completing the album, the band fired their drummer and original member, George Tutuska who had been with the band for nine years. Tutuska was under the impression that all royalties from their music would be split evenly among the members as they had been with all previous albums, but John Rzeznik had secretly been keeping all the checks for himself because he believed he earned them for writing most of the band's songs. Tutuska demanded equal pay, and was fired and replaced with Mike Malinin, who would also end up being fired after 20 years with the band, again by Rzeznik, for wanting to take paternity leave to be with his newborn.

After enjoying Dizzy Up the Girl, my friend Eric, who owned A Boy Name Goo and Superstar Car Wash, but didn't like them, sold them to me. I was expecting more songs like those from Dizzy, but I found the songs to be rather homogeneous and dull by comparison. However, after listening to the album for awhile, it began to grow on me. However, now, after learning about Rzeznik's mistreatment of Tutuska, I began to notice how dull the drum sections are, possibly a result of Tutuska being disenfranchised with the band, or not being allowed creative control, and now it decreases my appeal for the songs.
