Game

Although the game sported plenty of exciting ideas like mixing fighting, driving, and shooting into one big action game, it kind of fell on its face with poor game play. Basically, the game was unbelievably difficult because established game mechanics didn't fit. If you were good at a platform fighter like River City Ransom or Double Dragon, you would still get wasted in the fighting parts. The shooting sections were pretty cool, but using the Zapper was foolish and trying to move the super sensitive crosshairs with the controller took a lot of practice. The driving section was easier to control, but also kind of boring with only a few variations throughout the game. All that aside, the game does keep you coming back for more, but even a pro will get frustrated and throw their controller at some point.

The Famicom version of the game--called Mad City--was quite a bit more balanced. Although the control was just as awkward, the enemies were easier to defeat.

Music

Like most of Konami's big named games, The Adventures of Bayou Billy had decent music for its day. While it is rarely ever listed on anyone's top ten list, it still has several nice upbeat tunes. The intro cut scene has a sound that you wouldn't expect form an NES game, and the ending music is one of the best.

Ripping

Ripping NES music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site.
