Game
West Adventure is played entirely in Chinese, which isn't that big of a problem since it's not very important to read any of the text. The game is based off a very influential Chinese tale, and you play one of three animal-like pilgrims who are traveling west to India. Along the way you are repeatedly accosted by many rouges who attack you. Basically, it's a scrolling fighting game where you walk though each stage, beat the crap out of everyone, and defeat the boss at the end--kind of like Final Fight. or Double Dragon While the premise is easy to pick up on, the game is quite difficult. Even though the game has almost no American following, it's still a quality game with great graphics and sound.
Music
The music has been competently composed, and is well suited for a fighting games. The tracks are up-tempo and feature decent instruments for the time. The game takes advantage of a number of audio devices, including Adlib, Sound Blaster, and the Roland MT-32. Unfortunately, because the game is so difficult, people rarely hear the music from later in the game. The game doesn't feature any credits to attribute to a composer.
Ripping
The music is in type 0 MIDI format and was extracted from the West.mus file. While the game utilizes the Roland MT-32, it doesn't use standard MT-32 instrument banks, so while the music sounds great when playing the game, nobody has been able to rip the SysEx data to get proper playback, so currently there is no Vorbis soundtrack. Also, due to the difficulty of the game, I have yet to be able to properly name all of the ripped music files.
