Reviews
Game
X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter is a multiplayer game, so unlike it's processors, there isn't a nice story mode to follow. However, it does feature a new game engine with higher resolution graphics. Unfortunately, it didn't account for newer cards, so the resolution is fixed at 640-480. The multiplayer lets you finally figure out which one of your friends is the best fighter pilot in your group, but other than that the game doesn't have much going for it. The AI is mechanical, the co-op battles are too hard, and finding someone online to play with is near impossible.
Music
Rather than include the music from X-Wing and TIE Fighter, this released opted for CD audio. While it does give much a higher fidelity sound to John Williams' scores, it detracts a little from the over all game play because there are only seven audio tracks to work with. It great to hear the full Star Wars Theme and Imperial March will all the power of the movie with a full orchestra backing it up, but it's sad that all the music is directly from the film.
Ripping
The CD audio from the game was ripped off the CD using CDex. Note that both the install CD and the multiplayer CD contain the same CD audio.
