Game
One of the best known RPGs on the Sega Genesis is Shining Force. The game's back story tells the tale of the evil Dark Dragon who vowed to return after 1,000 years of being exiled to another dimension by the ancestors of the world of Rune. 1,000 years have past, and the Dark Dragon is returning. The forces from the kingdom of Runefaust have begun a war to help bring the Dark Dragon to power, and it's up to you and the adventurers you find along the way to save the entire world.
Shining Force uses the typical RPG foundation with levels, experience, gold, weapons and armor, etc. However, unlike the random encounters of adventure based RPGs, combat is tactically driven and it takes place in a grid field where you have to maneuver your players around the enemy. The battles are predetermined and each one must be fought in order. Along the way you will meet a great deal of allies to help form your party as well as a number of enemies and bosses which you must defeat.
Shining Force is the first game in a large list of games that take place in the Shining Series.
Music
Like most RPGs, Shining Force put a lot of work into the game's music. There are several impressive tracks to the game's score and a bunch of little jingles to add flair. Although the sound chips in the Genesis weren't as good as the SNES, Shining Force still makes good use of them and yields an high quality sound track.
Track titles are translated from the soundtrack of the GBA remake of Shining Force.
Ripping
Ripping Genesis music is a time consuming process that is beyond the scope of this site.
