Game
Most sequels never live up to their predecessors whether it be movies, games, whatever. SIMCity 2000 was a beautiful sequel that improved on the first in many different ways. New buildings, new water system, new isometric view. It was amazing. The music was pretty catchy as well.
Music
SIMCity 2000's music is a jumble of tracks that are played at different intervals along the progression of the game. Some have a nice rural feel, others have a more urban sound.
Ripping
The music was ripped from the SC2000.DAT file, which contains the majority of the game's data including fonts, sound effects, graphics, text data, and of course music. There are four similar soundtracks numbered in a set. A 10000 set, 20000 set, 30000 set and a 50000 set with 18 tracks per set. The sets are most likely created for different soundcards. They play the same music, only with slightly different timbres. After listening to them you'll find that the 30000 set is the music used with the Roland MT-32. After recording the sysex data, the XMI files were played through a Roland MT-32 synthesizer and the output was recorded, which is what you'll hear in the Vorbis soundtrack.
Also note that song 30017 doesn't exist for the Roland MT-32 soundtrack. I'm not sure why it's missing, but if you play the song from the other sets you'll hear that it's just four minutes of beeps and pops, so it might be sound effect data.
