Game

Although several games were released regarding the Magic card game, this one is the only one that actually properly enforces the rules. Unfortunately, this was the game's undoing. The rules are so strict and the interface has such a sharp learning curve that many early players are turned off by it. The game purposely does not have an undo and it is very unforgiving to mistakes. That aside, the game is remarkably similar to the real card game. Rules are right out of the book so there is no need for interpretation and the game does a good job at displaying how things are going to go down.

The AI to play this game obviously had to be extremely complex and the guys at MicroProse did a decent job with it. The AI handles combat very well often performing clever moves you wouldn't expect. It does have a few weird quirks and does strange and self-destructive moves occasionally, and it isn't able to learn from its mistakes, but it's still better than your average Magic newbie.

The game has two add-ons, Spells of the Ancients and Duel of the Planeswalkers. SotA added a new layout and DofP gave Internet play. Both additions also gave more cards, but neither gave new music.

Music

Game aside, the music is very nice. It has an old world sound which incorporates many different instruments to give a variety of different moods and feelings.

Ripping

The game music and sound effects are located in the Sound folder. They are in PCM WAV format, which was re-encoded into Vorbis.
