Game

Guerrilla War is one of the better run and gun military games for the NES platform. The game allows two-player simultaneous action and a whole bunch of enemies, weapons, explosions, and bullets flying everywhere. While it is possible to make it through the game unscathed, you'll probably die a few thousand times. However, since the game gives you infinite continues, you shouldn't have any problem beating the game every time you play it. While this does take away some of the satisfaction of beating it, it also takes away all of the frustration found in games like Commando and Ikari Warriors.

The game's story is of little importance, but it's there if you're interested. You are a guerrilla fighter who lands on an island that is under military occupation. You must advance to the leaders palace by wiping out his several thousand soldiers and rescuing hostages.

In the game you have unlimited ammo and unlimited grenades, so shoot generously. As you progress you'll uncover several weapons like spread guns, laser rifles, rocket launchers, and flame throwers. You can also drive tanks and run people over, which is great fun. There are ten stages in all and each stage had a powerful end boss to kill.

Guerrilla War offers about a half hour of non-stop excitement, but once you beat the game you'll become bored of it. However, the game keeps calling you back because it's hard to resist the mindless fun.

Music

Although Guerrilla War's soundtrack rarely makes it onto anyone's top ten list, it is still professionally composed and above-average for the 8-bit Nintendo platform. All of the music has a thematically military sound which is, of course, apt for the game.

Ripping

Ripping NES music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site.
