Game
Castlevania is one of the earlier action platform games for the NES that maintains its popularity to this day. You play as the vampire hunter, Simon Belmont, who is seeking out the evil Count Dracula so that he may put an end to his unlife. As a rather unusual weapon, Simon wields a whip which becomes more powerful as you pick up power-ups. You also have the use of other weapons like the dagger, axe, boomerang, holy water, and a couple others. Each will aide you best in different areas of the game. The enemies are staples to the horror genre including skeletons, ghosts, zombies, vampire bats, and mummies. Even though the game is very difficult, it's still a lot of fun and has great replay value.
Music
Kinuyo Yamashita did a great job composing the music of Castlevania. Not only has it inspired countless other composers to update and remix the soundtrack for later Castlevania titles, but it also stands well on its own. The track titles come from albums released for the later Castlevania titles. All of the releases of Castlevania use the same music including the NES, Famicom, Famicom Disk System, and the Vs. arcade game. The "Name Entry" track comes from the original FDS version of the game, but is not played in the NES or Famicom releases.
Ripping
Ripping NES music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site.
