Reviews
Game
1942 is one of the earlier popular scrolling shooters for the arcade. The NES version is ported from the arcade release, but considerably dumbed down to fit on the weaker NES hardware. You play the pilot of a 1942 fighter plane who must shoot his way through 32 waves of hostile Japanese enemy fire from fighter planes, bombers, and occasionally, enormous boss planes. The game supports two players, but not at the same time, which really drops its entertainment value. Compared to later scrolling shooters, the game is quite awful in the graphics and sound department, but it did start the 194X series which was very popular in the arcades of the 1980s.
Music
1942's music can best be summed up as annoying. The background music tries to fit in the Morse Code of S.O.S., but because the sound effects use the same channels as the music, it's constantly interrupted by gunfire and explosions. There are a couple fanfares which are neat, but nothing here is very impressive. All of the audio was ported from the arcade game, which was composed by Ayako Mori.
Ripping
Ripping NES music is a very arduous process that is beyond the scope of this site.
