Andrew Benson was born in 1972 in Alexandria, Minnesota. In 1980, while suffering from a stomach flu, he heard the song "Kiss On My List" by Hall and Oates. The music changed his mood, and ever since then he knew he wanted to make music for the rest of his life. He asked his father to help teach him how to play guitar and began playing piano and percussion as well.
Benson received a B.A. in Music Composition at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN in 1995. In 1994, while still in college, Benson was hired at Digital Cafe where he worked as a composer and sound designer until 1998 when Digital Cafe was acquired by Zentropy Partners. In 2002 Benson founded his own Web usability company, Straight Line Theory, based in Minneapolis. He also composed the soundtrack for Discovery Channel's Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science.
Benson writes and performs his own brand of synth pop music under the stage name Andrew Benon. His 2006 debut album is called Rock and Roll Moves, and he is currently working on his next album.
Benson's influences include The Police, Talking Heads, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Prince, Hall and Oates, and Thomas Dolby and his recent favorite bands include The White Stripes and Interpol.
Outside of music, Benson likes to spend time with his wife and kids and he loves to snowboard and swim.
