Kenneth Silverman was born on November 1, 1975 in Yorktown, NY, USA. In 1980 his family moved to East Greenwich, Rhode Island. In 1983 his family purchased a Texas Instruments 99/4A computer which hooked Silverman on computers and programming. He spent much of his free time experimenting with computers and writing code for them.
In 1990, he began to become more serious with his programming hobby and in 1991 he finished Kentris, a Tetris clone with his own music format. This helped prepare him for his next project, Ken's Labyrinth. After see in Wolfenstein 3D, Silverman concluded that he could make a better game himself, so he began Ken's Labyrinth. The version that most people are familiar with was published by Epic MegaGames on March 21st, 1993, when Ken was still only seventeen years old. The game featured a soundtrack composed entirely by Silverman.
After Epic saw what Silverman was capable of they hired him to design a new 3D engine for them, the Build engine. The engine went on to power the game Duke Nukem 3D, among many others.
Silverman currently lives in Rhode Island. His primary hobby is still programming, and he still composes music from time to time.
