John Towner Williams Biography Aliases: None Home Country: USA John Towner Williams was born on February 8th, 1932 in Floral Park, New York, but in 1948, his family moved to Los Angeles, CA where he attended North Hollywood High School. After school he went to the University of California, Los Angeles and Los Angeles City College, and also studied with composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. Williams was drafted in 1952 and used his musical talent to conduct music for the Air Force Band. His service ended in 1955 and he moved back to New York to attend Juilliard School, where he studied piano with Rosina Lhévinne. To help make his way through school, Williams worked as a jazz pianist for New York clubs. Also, during this time, he played for Henry Mancini on several of his television scores in the late 50s and early 60s. After he graduated from Juilliard, Williams moved back to Los Angeles and worked as an orchestrator for film. In 1974 Williams met Steven Spielberg, and began collaborating with him on several of his movies including Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park as well as many of George Lucas' movies like the Indiana Jones trilogy and all six Star Wars movies. Williams has been the recipient of many awards including five Academy Awards. He still composes and conducts music to this day. Although he doesn't compose music specifically for videogames, his music has been featured in many of them. Because of this, his gameography is sorted alphabetically, not chronologically.
