After high school Henry went on to attend the Juilliard School of Music in New York. He would only see the first year of school because he was drafted in 1943 into World War 2.

He continued to broaden his musical talent and added composition, counterpoint, harmony and orchestration to his already defined jazz and swing skills. He studied with the professional composers Ernst Krenek and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
Mancini joined the music department of Universal-International Studios in 1952 and help score movies, tv shows, and various other forms of entertainment (over 100 in all). He left Universal in 1958 and formed a relationship with the notable producer Blake Edwards. Together they worked on over 30 movies.
During his life Mancini went on to record over 90 albums. Some included his work for the entertainment industry, some were composed from his personal work. At least eight of them sold over 500,000 copies. Aside from his records Mancini also performed around 600 symphony performances during his life
On June 14th, 1994, Henry Mancini died from pancreatic cancer. He was 70 years old. Mancini won four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and 20 Grammys including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously in 1995.
Although Mancini never composed music directly for a videogame, many of his themes that he scored for movies have been used in videogames. Because of this, Mancini's gameography is in alphabetical order.
