The Game Boy release of Bionic Commando is the third game in the series. It is meant to be a remake of the original game.

Story
Because the Game Boy release is meant to be a remake of the NES version of Bionic Commando it is quite similar. Director Wiseman, leader of the Doraize Army is trying to bring about the Albatross project. If he succeeds he will be able to take over the world.
Super Joe is sent to stop them, but he is captured so the FF Corps send their best soldier Rad Spencer to rescue Super Joe and stop Director Wiseman.

Ending
Once you reach area 16 Rad and Super Joe split up to find Wiseman. Super Joe destroys the bridge which allows you to get to Wiseman. After you defeat Director Wiseman's bodyguard, Rile, you find that Wiseman has finished the Albatross project. You then travel to the Albatross area and make your way through the enormous vehicle to the end where you destroy it. With the Albatross destroyed, Wiseman tries to make a getaway. Super Joe meets up with you to give you the S-APDS gun to destroy Wiseman's helicopter. You make a huge leap and blast the helicopter in the air and finally defeat Wiseman.

Bionic Commando was developed on the Game Boy by Capcom in Japan.

Rather than continue with the different naming conventions for each region, the Top Secret name was dropped in Japan and from here on out Bionic Commando would be the standard. It was released on July 24st, 1992.
This is also the last Bionic Commando release for Japan.

The North American release of Bionic Commando for the Game Boy occurred a few months after the Japanese release in September of 1992.
The obvious change to the game is, of course, the translation of all the game's text into English.
