The Goo Goo Dolls are a rock n' roll trio from Buffalo, New York. They formed in 1986, with the members of Robby Takac (bass, vocals, song writer), John Rzeznik (lead guitar, vocals, songwriter), and George Tutuska (drummer). Mike Malinin took over drums after the "A Boy Named Goo" album. Their music ranges from soft acoustics, to alternative, to punk.

By 1995 they had already released several albums, but it wasn't until their hit single "Name" came out on the "A Boy Named Goo" album that they became mainstream. This pushed them into stardom, and allowed them to be known well enough to have a song on the "City of Angels" soundtrack. The song was called "Iris", which later became a huge success. With the single helping the album it became number 15 on Billboard in October 1998. Another song on the same album, "Slide", hit the US Top 10 the following January.

Their latest studio album, "Gutterflower", was released in April 2002, and has done quite well. The album is a little more mild than their previous work, but was engineered and produced very well. Their next album "Let Love In" is scheduled for April 25th, 2006.

I personally didn't start listening to the Goo Goo Dolls until 1998, after they were already very popular. I was impressed by their well disciplined vocals and very rhythmic sound. I have the latest four Goo Goo Dolls albums, (excluding their hits album), and I am fond of them all. I would recommend this band to anyone who likes modern rock.
