Doom 2 added several new features to the original game like new monsters, new weapons, and new maps. What it didn't add was a new game engine. Don't get me wrong, the game was ace, but I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see something really spectacular.

Anyway, the multiplayer support features balanced weapons, chatting, text macros, and the ability to view the game through your friend's eyes in cooperative. Doom 2 still didn't have support for TCP/IP and you are forced to use the older IPX protocol. There is also a max of only four players, but this is usually enough to keep things interesting.

Doom 2's multiplayer was later updated with Doom 95.
