In Leviticus 18:19, God forbids a man form having sex with a woman who is menstruating. It was already hinted at that this was evil three chapters ago. It really would have made more sense to put this commandment first, but what are you going to do? Anyway, earlier we learned that accidentally getting menses on one’s penis meant being filthy for the rest of the day, but things get a bit more aggressive here. If you read ahead, God explains that the punishment for purposely having sex with a woman who is on her period is permanent banishment.

Banishment is also the same punishment for a number of crimes that will be listed in the upcoming verses including adultery, human sacrifice, bestiality, and homosexuality. These punishments will change in the near future, but at least for now, having sex with your menstruating wife yields the same punishment as a person who cremates their still-living child on the altar of a false god. That pretty much sums up God’s morality, doesn’t it?

Despite God’s squeamishness, no ill effects occur from having sex while a woman is menstruating. It’s not immoral, it won’t cause any physical damage, and the messiness of it all can be eliminated by something as mundane as an old clean towel. Do you know where your towel is?

That...is the most disturbing quote from the Hitchhiker's Guide I have yet to encounter. (I'm afraid to even contemplate what something worse might be, lol.)

Well done on working the quote into the pink notes. Ew, but well done.

You can't prove that Adams wasn't thinking about this when he wrote The Guide!

Oh the irony!
